Pump Installation
- The pump should be installed in a well-ventilated and frost-protected location. Ensure aminimum cearance of 150 mm between the pump, motor, and any obstructions to allowsufficient airflow around the motor's cooling fan.
- Inlet piping should be as short as possible to minimize friction losses at the suction side.
- Before installing the pump, verify that a check valve is installed in the piping system toprevent backflow of liquid. lf the pump is used for boiler feedwater supply, a check valvemust be installed on the delivery line between the pump and the boiler.
- The pump should be mounted on a concrete or similarly stable foundation of appropriateheight, or securely fixed on a rigid floor-mounted or wall-mounted bracket. Care must betaken to avoid concentrating the weight of the piping onto the pump, which could causedamage to the pump structure.*During pump installation, it is strictly prohibited to mount the motor in an inverted position on a horizontal surface.
The "->" mark on the inlet and outlet sections of the pump indicates the direction of liquid flowthrough the pump. Before starting the pump, ensure that liquid can pass freely.Prior to pump installation, the inlet pipeline must be flushed clean. lf it cannot be guaranteedthat the pipeline is free of particles, a strainer must be installed 0.5-1 m before the pump suctioninlet (especially recommended for pumps with a flow rate below 8 m/h) to ensure normal pumpoperation.
During installation of the inlet pipeline, care must be taken to avoid air pockets (see Figure 3).If there is a possibility that the shut-off valve on the outlet side may close (or flow may drop tozero), a bypass line must be installed on the outlet pipeline to ensure sufficient lubricating andcooling water passes through the pump.
Electrical Connection
- Electrical wiring must be carried out by a qualified electrician with appropriate certification.
- Verify that the motor is compatible with the power supply being used. The motor leads must beconnected to the power source in accordance with the wiring diagram attached to the terminabox and the specifications on the motor nameplate.
- The motor must be connected to a quick and effective motor starter to ensure protectionagainst phase loss, voltage instability, and overload. The pump motor must be reliably grounded
* Before removing the motor terminal box cover or disassembling the pump, ensure that the power supply has been disconnected.
Start-up, Operation and Maintenance
* Before starting up, carefully read the warning sign on the pump pressure cylinder.
1. The pump must be fully filled with water (or the liquid to be conveyed) before starting.Priming the pump in a flooded suction system:
Close the pump outlet valve. Open the vent plug on the pump head. Gradually open theinlet valve until a steady flow of liquid discharges from the vent plug, then tighten the ventplug. Fully open the check valve on the suction pipeline.
Priming the pump in an open system where the liquid level is below the pump:
* Note: A check valve must be installed on the suction pipeline.
Close the pump outlet valve, open the vent plug on the pump head, and fill the pump withliquid through the vent plug hole until both the pump and the suction pipeline arecompletelwfledwith liquid.Then retightenvent Dlug
* Do not start the pump until it is completely filled with liquid and all air hasbeen thoroughly vented!
* Note the orientation of the vent hole on the vent plug. Take care to ensure that anyoverflowing liquid does not cause injury to personnel or damage to the pump and othercomponents. In hot water applications, exercise extreme caution to avoid the risk ofscalding!
2.Check Rotation Direction
Turn on the power and observe the rotation direction (check the fan). The correct rotationdirection is indicated by the arrow on the pump head, i.e., viewed from the motor drive endthe pump should rotate counterclockwise.
3. Pre-Start Checks
- Ensure the anchor bolts are tightened.
- Verify the pump is fully filled with liquid.
-Confirm the grid voltage is correct.
Check that the rotation direction is correct.
- Ensure all pipelines are tightly connected and can supply water normally.
- Confirm the valve on the inlet pipeline is fully open; the outlet valve should be slowlyopened after the pump has started.
- lf a pressure gauge is installed, check the operating pressure.- Verify all controls required for normal operation. lf the pump is controlled by a pressureswitch, check and adjust the start and stop pressures. Use the pressure switch to confirmthat the motor's full-load current does not exceed the maximum allowable current.4. Pump Start Frequency
The pump should not be started too frequently.Recommended limits:
-For motors ≤4 kW: no more than 100 starts per hour.-For motors >4 kW: no more than 20 starts per hour.If frequent starts are observed, adjust the control equipment to reduce the start-stopfrequency. lt may also be necessary to review the installation conditions.
5.Pump Operation
Operate the pump within the performance range indicated by the bold section of the curveto prevent overheating due to insufficient flow or motor overload caused by excessive flow.
6.Maintenance
When installed according to this manual, the pump will operate efficiently with minimalmaintenance:
- The mechanical seal is self-adjusting, and the contact surfaces of its stationary and rotatingfaces are lubricated and cooled by the pumped liquid.(For pumps with motors larger than 7.5 kW, the mechanical seal can be replaced withoutdismantling the motor.)
- The pump's sliding bearings are lubricated by the pumped liquid.7. Freezing Prevention
The pump may be used in systems where water is protected against freezing. lf installed in alocation prone to frost, an appropriate antifreeze solution must be added to the pumpedliquid to prevent ice damage.
If antifreeze is not used, the pump must be shut down when frost risk exists, and both thepump and system must be completely drained.8. Regular lnspections
Perform periodic checks of:
-Pump operation and working pressure,
-Possible motor overheating;
-Trip time of motor overload protection;
-Proper functioning of all controls;
-Possible leaks;
-Removal, cleaning,and replacement of all strainers;
Frequency of starts and stops.
If any abnormality is found, refer to the section “Common Faults and Troubleshooting” forcorrective actions.9. Long-Term Shutdownlf the pump is to be out of service for an extended period, it shouldbe thoroughly cleaned and stored properly.
10. StorageDuring storage, protect the pump against corrosion and physical damage.
Assembly and Disassembly
1. CDL/CDLF2, 4 Pumps
- Slide the retaining ring onto the shaft, followed by the spacer, impeller, impeller spacerdiffuser, support diffuser, and so on, until the last impeller is installed. Then, attach theimpeller cover plate, washer, and tighten the nut. Pay attention to the position of thesupport diffuser: for pumps with fewer stages, the last component is the support diffuser; forpumps with more stages, additional support diffusers should be added at evenly spacedintervals, along with support spacers and bearings as required.
- Install the flow guide into the inlet/outlet section and base, then mount the assembledrotor component onto the flow guide
- Fit an O-ring onto the inlet/outlet section, slide the pressure cylinder over it, and install theoutlet diffuser.- Place the pump head (already equipped with its O-ring, liner, and wire spring) over thepressure cylinder. Tighten the four tie-rod nuts on the base evenly-do not tighten one nutcompletely at a time; instead, tighten them symmetrically and gradually in sequence.
- install the mechanical seal and secure it. Mount the motor and coupling, then thread thescrews on the coupling (but do not fully tighten yet). Push the coupling (including the pumpshaft) fully toward the base, then pull it back approximately 1 mm in the opposite directionbefore tightening the screws. Ensure the gap between the two coupling halves is uniformacross the mating surfaces.
- Tighten the set screws on the mechanical seal. Rotate the coupling by hand to verify thatthe shaft turns smoothly without any binding or looseness.Disassembly of the pump follows the reverse of the above steps.2.CDL/CDLF Models 8,10,12,16,20 Pumps
